Our friendly and caring nurses from the Short Term Procedure Unit want to make your experience with our surgical services department as smooth as possible. They prepare patients for procedures ranging from total joint replacements or bowel resections to a removal of a skin lesion or colonoscopy. If your surgical plan includes going home the same day as your procedure, our nurses will assure that your pain is controlled before you leave. They will provide education to both you and your family regarding your care and medications. They will even call you the next day to make sure that you are doing well and understand all of your discharge instructions.
We realize that going through a procedure impacts your entire family. It can be very stressful waiting for a loved one while they are having surgery. Here at SRMC we wanted to improve that experience as well. We provide your family with refreshments while they wait in our newly renovated waiting room. The hospital also provides internet access in the main lobby for visitors.
Many procedures that your doctor may prescribe for you can be done on an outpatient basis so you may return back to home or work as quickly as possible. These procedures may include, but are not limited to transfusions, IV medication administration, catheter changes, vaccinations and injections.
